Worldwide Faith News was opened on December 24, 1995 as a news release and information distribution service for the participating faith groups, and a searchable archive data base of those releases and other documents .

The service was developed under the auspices of the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA.

Worldwide Faith News was developed and begun under a grant from the Trinity Grants Program of Trinity Episcopal Church in New York
