Documentaries about media, civil war, human rights, and stereotypes will showcase the work of international film directors for Congress participants.

Shock Waves, by InformAction Productions?winner of the best Canadian documentary on international development (2008) and of the WACC-SIGNIS human rights film award (2008)?will be screened on 7 October. The documentary presents realities of local radio reporting in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a country torn by civil war where people are struggling to rebuild their communities.

Sometimes in April, directed by Raoul Peck, is an exposé of the West?s inability to act when nearly one million Rwandans were killed during the genocide of 1994. The film, to be screened on 7 October, focuses on two brothers caught up in the conflict between the Hutu majority and the Tutsi minority.

The astonishing and persistent pattern of Arab stereotyping in Hollywood films is the subject of Reel Bad Arabs, produced by Media Education Foundation, which will be screened on 9 October. The documentary takes a devastating tour of films from the silent movies of the 1920s to present-day blockbusters.

Director Ramadan Suleman of South Africa will attend the screening of Zulu Love Letter on 9 October. Through the story of Thandi, a journalist suffering from writer?s block, the film focuses on the 10 years since apartheid?s political regime was  dismantled.
